...in love and marriage.

She leaves.
I stay at home.

We'll both travel
great distances in time,
through both work and words,
before coming back together again
to break bread and recount our day.

What is a modern marriage
without traditional roles,
without any children,
without the same old answers
to the same old questions?

As I hear her car pull away,
I pause to say a prayer
and ask for a blessing
come what may.

When marrying,
ask yourself this question:

Do you believe that you will be able
to converse well with this person
into your old age?

Everything else in marriage is transitory.
~ Friedrich Nietzsche
