We Can't Go Back

We Can't Go Back

...though I'm sure we'll try.

We can't go back.

The illusions we held
in that precious old vase
now shattered on the ground,
have scattered everywhere.

There will be blame.
There will be denial.
There will be darkness
and dismissal.

But there will be no way
to put Humpty Dumpty
back together again.

So long as profit
is the only basis
for life and living
suffering will reign.

Yet a new day dawns
filled with possibility,
provided we don't retreat
to where this all began.

Ask Elizabeth Taylor.
Ask Richard Burton
They each married
five or more times.

We can all chase,
but never go back again.

All of our reasoning ends in surrender to feeling.
~ Blaise Pascal
