Headlong

Headlong

Only fools rush in.

Upon waking today,
my soul urged me softly
not to rush headlong into
my usual work and worry,
but rather to take each step
mindfully, allowing this day
to patiently guide me.

My mind protested immediately
with a laundry list of tasks,
and plenty of rational reasons
for me to attack the new day.

But my heart and gut
aren't so easily persuaded,
and firmly refused to listen
to the tyrant in my head.

I waited patiently,
knowing storms do pass,
and a peaceful new day
may emerge in its place.

I never rush myself.
See, they can't start the game without me.
