Morning Bell

Morning Bell

...release me.

The new day always comes
too often and too early.

In the distance
just before daylight,
I can hear a bell tolling,
as if slowly saying,

More seems like the truth,
but I know it's really a lie
I've only been repeating
and wanting to believe.

Each night I drift off
to God knows where,
but just before waking
I realize I'm in my attic
filled with so much junk
I don't need anymore.

In the moment I don't know
what to do with all the crap
I've saved and accumulated,
but as I look into the boxes
everything just goes away.

When I got up this morning,
I discovered a truth hidden
in one of those boxes I had stored:

The purpose of my life is
to hold and lessen all the suffering,
beginning with my own.

I continue to be drawn to clarity and simplicity.
'Less is more' remains my mantra.
