A Good Sign

A Good Sign

...a man has changed...

I tell you,
it's a good sign
when a man is resigned
and says with a shrug,

There's nothing else
I must do.

It's also a good sign
if he's eager to chat,
gives and receives hugs,
speaks when spoken to,
falls silent mid-sentence,
and admits he doesn't know.

I'd readily agree,
this may seem a bit strange,
to those of us grown accustom
to loud voices and heavy hands.

Still I assure you
it's a very good sign
when a man stops
whatever he is doing
and asks sincerely,

What is my life about?

Society is always taken by surprise
at any new example of common sense.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

A sudden bold and unexpected question
doth many times surprise a man and lay him open.
~ Francis Bacon
