You Don't Notice

You Don't Notice

...what your soul sees clearly.

Oh this world!

Even when I focus my attention,
I often fail to see what's near to me.

Somehow the awesome beauty
of the blue sky on a summer day
will elude my wandering eyes.

And I may not even notice
the pain and suffering of others
hiding in plain sight.

It seems I only call to awareness
what I want my eyes to see
or my ears to hear.

But my bless my soul,
he's a tireless instigator,
randomly knocking on doors,
then wheeling and dealing
with all sorts of shady spirits.

Before too long,
I find myself digging out
from all the wonderful mischief
my soul has invited.

We do not need more intellectual power,
we need more spiritual power.
We do not need more of the things that are seen,
we need more of the things that are unseen.
~ Calvin Coolidge
