Like a Rock

Like a Rock

...but not quite so firm...

I'm beginning to wonder
whether I've become a stone.

I often fear the world
right outside of these walls
where I live and work.

And there are many days
when I'd rather be indoors,
though I can never resist
my fearless little dog
urging me to venture out.

Still I feel heavy,
and like a great rock,
resistant to being moved
by all the commotion
surrounding me.

I now hear chants coming
from distant monasteries,
and the swirling wind whistling
through empty hermitages...

Aren't you also witnessing
the great forces now gathering
to move the unmovable?

You are always a student, never a master.
You have to keep moving forward.
