Look at Me

Look at Me

...please!

The price for perfection
has fallen precipitously.
So if you really want it,
you can easily purchase it.

For the cost of a smartphone
and a social media account,
you'll get all the necessary voodoo,
as well as the smoke and mirrors,
to create any illusion you wish.

Maybe we all must chase it,
at least for a little while.

It kinda seems necessary
to pursue an illusory and ideal life,
so one day we may better appreciate
the aging and asymmetric reality
staring back at us in the mirror.

Our drunkenness
is not the real tragedy.
Rather it's fear.

And we've known its potency
for too many centuries.

Whoever loves becomes humble.
Those who love have, so to speak,
pawned a part of their narcissism.
~ Sigmund Freud
