Into a Stillness

Into a Stillness

...we must go.

An ending is nigh.
You and I both suspected
its coming for a long time.

The initiated already know
this is not the end of all life,
but rather the end of life
as we've come to know
and to understand it.

As unfettered capitalism,
whether sacred or profane,
captured and commodified
every aspect of our being,
the end crept closer.

Now take notice of all the suffering.
Take measure of your own suffering.

Then go into that darkness
haunting you both day and night,
whether you're sleeping or awake.

The word we're all whispering
is collapse.

The human world,
no longer able to sustain itself,
is shrinking into a stillness.

The sound of 'gentle stillness'
after all the thunder and wind have passed
will be the ultimate word from God.
~ Jim Elliot
