A Poem for My Sister

A Poem for My Sister

Would there be a me without you?

Is there no greater resentment
than being compelled to act
by forces beyond our control?

Even so I know we both
feel obliged to do something
about all our earthly suffering.

You've an amazing gift to embody
the full range of human emotion,
yet can still hold each moment
with wise and celestial equanimity.

Let's not forget we're artists,
and there's no economic motive
in those mystical creative forces
commanding us to share our love.

Teach what you've come to Earth to teach us.
Love and heal as only you know how.
Never stop learning the secrets of the Universe.
You recognize the danger of a lazy mind.

As I grew up,
one of my strongest allies has been my sister.
