The Forgotten Obvious
The Forgotten Obvious
Remember not to wait.
Darkness falls
like closing curtains,
allowing the stage to be reset
for yet another strange scene.
When the darkness lifts
we may see this world anew.
Doors all over the city
swing open then shut.
Yet there is only one door,
just as there is only one car
in the parade of headlights.
So too there is one
frisky and barking dog,
while the playground contains
only one elated, screaming child.
And even though the hospital beds
are full of the sick and dying,
there is only one death.
These smells are all familiar,
her kiss goodbye electric.
He steps up to the mic quivering
peering out into the blue light.
You catch my drift.
Now come closer,
and still closer...
To spell out the obvious is often to call it in question.
