My Serenity Prayer

Each day brings
things I must do,
things I wish to do,
and all too often,
things I resist doing.

Shouldn’t this all add up nicely,
both sides of the ledger
balanced and reconciled?
But of course this isn’t
a fair accounting of my life.

Though it’s still early,
I am watching the clock,
well-aware the time is approaching
when I must prepare myself
to head out and face this day.

A quick prayer is all I can manage.
The Serenity Prayer leaps to mind.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
