Sacred Space

It’s been a few days since
I’ve heard a word or phrase
that gives me pause,
maybe raises an eyebrow,
and opens a portal to sacred space.

You may chuckle,
but this does happen often,
and in a just word or a song,
something my dog does,
or from a memory ignited
by an errant spark.

You too can go out hunting
for these sacred portals.
Common places to start
are calling an old friend to chat,
picking up a book or playing music.

It doesn’t really matter much,
where you search so long as
you don’t expect to find the sacred
while watching the news,
checking your portfolio,
or scrolling social media.

Those who do join the hunt
quickly realize the sacred
has been hunting them all along.

Your sacred space is where you can find yourself again and again.
