Time on the Road

Time on the Road

Getting closer to home.

A long drive lays bare
the truth of my inner landscape.

So many miles
become so many minutes
of solitude and thought
amidst the flow of heavy traffic
and of other distracted drivers,
all of us burning rubber
on an asphalt highway
we hope will take us home.

Every journey,
I say it again,
every journey
leads me somewhere unexpected
and uncovers truths
I can appreciate
in no other way.

This time on the road,
I realize I can no longer see
those now familiar things
for the very first time,
and my heart's biggest desire
is to become rooted.

When all's said and done,
all roads lead to the same end.
So it's not so much which road you take,
as how you take it.
