Churched

Churched

Allow it and it will happen.

I've never had
a church experience
in church.
And I daresay
few have.

Church always finds us
where we need to be found,
and rarely the other way around.

Church found me
in countless small rooms
attached to chapels
of all denominations,
where I'd sit in small groups
 right beside the Holy Spirit;
it filling all the spaces
between folding chairs.

And I've been churched
in nature's cathedral,
rendered speechless
by the awe of witnessing
my presence and belonging
to the awesomeness
of creation.

And I've been churched
while alone in the dark,
longing for something
to happen.

I believe that God knows what each of us wants and needs. It's not necessary for us to make it to church on Sunday to reach Him. You can find Him anyplace. And if that sounds heretical, my source is pretty good: Matthew, Five to Seven, The Sermon on the Mount.
~ Frank Sinatra

I love you when you bow in your mosque,
kneel in your temple, pray in your church.
For you and I are sons of one religion,
and it is the spirit.
~ Khalil Gibran
