Figuring It All Out

Figuring It All Out

It must add up to something.

To me everything
once seemed so innocent,
from a drive along the river,
to grandma's sweet tea.

Then somebody told me
that life's super easy,
so long as you don't try
to figure it all out.

Figure it all out‽

What is my life
if not one long journey
for which I'll receive no award
  to decorate the empty walls
I've dedicated to achievement?

I've started to realize
everything I'm collecting
and hoping never to forget,
later becomes some nothing
so easily stored in a box,
only to be pulled out occasionally
so I may recall my innocence
while reminding myself
whether it's been easy or not,
I'll forever be trying
to figure it all out.

The first step in solving a problem
is to recognize that it doesn't exist.
