Sanctuary

Sanctuary

Our home base...

I need a place
where only I can go
and maybe God can too,
but no one else,
unless I bring them
inside of me.

There,
in my safe space,
is where I can unravel
all my twisted thoughts
and lie naked in the afternoon
unafraid of consequences
or that my vulnerabilities
will be exposed
for anyone to ridicule
or to exploit.

But please don't worry.
I think it would be
a grave mistake to create
a place so comfortable
I'd never venture out again.

The home is the center of life -
a refuge from the grind of work,
pressure of school, menace of the streets,
a place to be ourselves.
