Great Conversations

Great Conversations

...are about learning to love.

Most mornings
you may find me here,
quietly praying for the fog
to fall away from my gaze.

Slowly,
trees, rivers
and mountains
come into focus,
along with birds,
busy squirrels,
and tiny bugs.

It seems I alone
observe this scene
with any distance,
any sense of self.

Timidly,
I begin to speak:

Oh Great River,
Oh Great Mountain,
Oh Wise Tree,
teach me the song
the birds are now singing.

I commune here
so that I too may learn
to love with abandon.

You won't fight to save
what you haven't learned to love.
~ Belden Lane
