A Bigger Fight

...is not inevitable.

Here come familiar feelings.
Fear and anxiety are on the march,
but I refuse to meet them head-on.
Force creates a counter-force.

So I let them pass.
Maybe they'll detain me,
take me away to a dark room
and show me all the things
I'd rather not see.

But if I don't resist,
they soon grow weary
and then quickly head off,
seeking a bigger fight.
