Memories

Memories

...so easy to deceive me.

Memories come and go
in changing colors,
various textures
and unpredictable emotions.

Here comes
a black and white memory
on yellowed, glossy paper
of a scene I cannot place,
but faces so familiar.

This image catapults me
to another memory when
riding a train through the West
I saw young mountains
for the very first time.

People, places,
and all particularities
melt in my mind and heart;
then through temporal alchemy
become feelings pleasant,
and feelings difficult,
before slowly coalescing
into a trusted map
for my spiritual journey.

Whenever I think of the past,
it brings back so many memories.
