...is so much better.

I can still hear the echoes
of the desperate voices
howling through the night,

I've gotten so
when I take the dog out
right before my bedtime,
I don't trust the stillness.

I much prefer
a moonless night,
the city lights illuminating
a gray ceiling of clouds
and driverless cars
pointing their headlights
down empty streets
where everything familiar
becomes just a a silhouette,
and the barking dogs
those voices we all ignore
when any doubt begins
to penetrate our certainty
the sun will return.

So where am I going with this?
I'm going nowhere of course.
Nowhere is the place I must go
before my soul can show me
anywhere is so much better.
