Nighttime

Nighttime

...is so different from the day.

Waking up at 2am
to take Simon outside
reveals a shadowy world
I've never really known.

The moon hangs higher
and appears to shine brighter.
The rooftops seem to be glowing,
and I suspect a few of my neighbors
are still sitting on their sofas,
tuned in to the Late Late Show.

Out in the street
I notice something moving,
but before I can find my light
it disappears down a storm drain.

We stumble back inside,
and while removing his harness
I sleepily grumble:

Let's go back to sleep Simon.
In a few hours it'll be a different world.

 Night is certainly more novel
and less profane than day.
~ Henry David Thoreau

I've always been a night person.
There's a sense of virtue attached
to getting up in the morning
and doing things and starting the day,
and I always felt bad for not being that person.
~ Bill Skarsgård

Think in the morning.
Act in the noon.
Eat in the evening.
Sleep in the night.
~ William Blake
