We Only See
We Only See
...what we're shown.
You and I notice
what we're apt to notice
from our experience,
from our conditioning.
Isn't this too obvious,
like knowing you'll likely catch
what you set out to hunt,
or will eventually arrive at
the destination towards which
you've always been heading?
I've become attuned
to pain and suffering,
because I was offered pain
to acknowledge my suffering.
Believe me when I tell you
pain and suffering are everywhere:
in the men vying for control,
in the women struggling to survive,
in the children screaming for attention,
and in the animals without refuge
as our home is being destroyed.
Yet even amidst
such devastating pain
and overwhelming suffering,
there is abundant evidence
of love and tenderness
still able to sustain life.
We are never so defenseless against suffering as when we love.
