Politics

Politics

...are often best left at home.

Today at the funeral
I left my politics at home.

I can't fool the dead
with my criticism and sermons
about the state of this world.

And I'm sure those grieving
don't need me or anyone else
to analyze or issue judgment
on the life of the deceased.

I just sat in church quietly,
participated in the liturgy,
and paid my last respects
as I listened and laughed
at the funny remembrances
of the family members.

That afternoon,
upon leaving the cemetery
I felt a bit lighter,
I felt less alone,
and was really glad
I left my politics at home.

The largest party in America, by the way,
is neither the Democrats nor the Republicans.
It's the party of non-voters.
