Doing Less

Doing Less

...creates so much more.

What's troubling you?

Me?
I find it awfully strange
the seemingly only answer,
to nearly every question
is more.

The faces I see suggest
we're all wanting a swift end
to this dystopian nightmare,
or are happily living an illusion
and don't ever want to wake.

Brothers and sisters,
I say beware the billionaires
and their legions of admirers.
They call exhaustion progress
and have grown fat and scornful
by adding fuel to the forces
sowing fatigue and discontent.

Become present in your body
by quieting your racing mind,
and expanding your heart
with the full range of emotion.

There may yet be a way out,
a way under and over,
or a way through...

It all begins with doing less.

Happiness is not a matter of intensity
but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony.
~ Thomas Merton
